I met Manni at the Sprachcafe he successfully conducts in Bonn and since the very beginning I had the feeling of being with a friend. Always positive, smiley and helpful, Manni is also a great tutor of German, thanks to his deep knowledge of grammar.

I could sense the sincerity and commitment in Manni as a teacher on the first day we met. After the first meeting I did not think twice to start my German learning expedition with him. Three aspects about his classes stood out for me:

Manni’s classes are custom made. He tries to understand the lacking as well as context of a student and guides in a way so that those wrinkles could be ironed out.

He is more focused on effective learning rather than just pacing it up and to do that he tries to be creative. For example, if normal teachers ask you to listen to news, watch films or youtube videos to improve your German listening, he would go an extra mile, provide you with effective and practical materials to listen and bind a task with that. And it helps.

Not only his methods are unique, the materials are structured and communicative, so do his classes. So a student very soon understands his or her role and can follow that.

Manni has been teaching me weekly and aiding and directing my own learning for the last four months. This is my third real attempt at improving my German; previous lessons I had with larger classes left me unmotivated with often structural aspects of the language not explained well.

Manni explains new concepts clearly and allows plenty of time for me to ask questions. To really learn something I still need to put in extra time and homework, and his explanations provide a firm foundation to this process. I think my approach to learning has been changed and improved, which is probably one of the most crucial (and often overlooked) aspects of learning a new language.

The one-to-one lessons allow a clear focus on my pronunciation. I think this is particularly important, and made me realise quickly areas to improve which I think would often be overlooked in other classes.

Manni provides a very wide range of tailored online exercises and material, and we often discuss how we would like the lessons to proceed and what is important for me. Our shared online log of classwork and homework streamlines and adds direction to what I am learning. It feels more like a chat than a strict lesson! I enjoy the weekly classes, and the time really passes quickly.
